Tarot or Oracle? Two Different Ways of Listening

Tarot cards and books on a reading table

Tarot and oracle cards often appear together, but they aren’t the same thing. Both can be used as tools for reflection and guidance, yet they have different structures and traditions.

Tarot has a defined structure

A traditional tarot deck has a recognisable system of cards and suits. That structure gives a reading a framework for exploring themes, relationships, choices and patterns.

Oracle decks can be more varied

Oracle decks don’t have to follow one universal structure. Their themes, number of cards and imagery can vary enormously, which gives each deck its own character.

Why use both?

Louise has many tarot and oracle decks and may choose one or more depending on the person and the reading. One deck can provide a particular structure while another may add a different perspective or layer.

There isn’t a rule that says every reading has to use the same cards. In fact, choosing the deck that feels relevant is part of what makes a Mystic Monkey reading personal.

Neither is a crystal ball

Whether the cards are tarot or oracle, Mystic Monkey treats them as a way to explore possibilities and perspectives rather than a guarantee of what will happen.

Different decks. Different voices. One personal reading. 🐒🔮
