Should I Stay or Should I Go? Using Tarot When You Have a Difficult Decision
Some decisions refuse to become simple. Tarot can be useful when you need to slow things down and look at what is really going on.
Some decisions arrive with a neat little answer attached.
Others sit on the kitchen table for three weeks and refuse to go away.
Should I stay? Should I leave? Should I take the job? Should I move? Should I give this another chance?
When you are close to a decision, it can be surprisingly difficult to see the situation clearly.
Tarot can slow the question down
One of the useful things about a tarot spread is that it gives the question some structure.
Instead of endlessly asking, “What should I do?”, you can look at different parts of the situation.
What am I not seeing? What am I afraid of? What happens if I stay? What might I discover if I leave?
Suddenly the question has edges.
Don’t ask the cards to take responsibility for your life
This is important.
A tarot reading can offer perspective, but it shouldn’t become a way of handing your decisions to somebody else, or to a deck of cards.
If you are making a major decision, look at the practical facts too. Money matters. Safety matters. Other people matter. Your responsibilities matter.
The cards can sit alongside those things. They don’t replace them.
Sometimes the real answer is hiding inside the question
Imagine asking, “Should I stay in this relationship?”
There may be another question underneath it:
“What would have to change for me to want to stay?”
That is much more revealing.
And sometimes you already know
There are readings where the cards don’t tell you anything you didn’t already suspect.
They simply make it harder to ignore.
That can be uncomfortable. It can also be a relief.
A decision doesn’t have to feel certain
We often wait for certainty before acting.
Unfortunately, certainty is not particularly generous with its time.
Sometimes you make the best decision you can with the information you have, then adjust when the situation changes.
That isn’t failure. That is being alive.
