Finding Balance with the Temperance Tarot Card

Louise explores the Temperance card as a reminder that balance can come from small adjustments, patience and reflection.

Rider Waite tarot cards arranged for a warm, thoughtful tarot reading

I’ve always found the Temperance card interesting. In many tarot decks, you see a figure carefully pouring liquid between two cups, with one foot on land and the other in water.

I see it as a reminder that balance doesn’t mean having everything perfectly sorted.

Balance can be a small adjustment

Sometimes it’s about making a small adjustment. Sometimes it’s giving something time instead of trying to force an answer. And sometimes it’s accepting that two different things can both have a place in your life.

The Temperance card is often associated with patience, moderation and bringing different elements together. The details vary between decks, and your question and the surrounding cards can shape how you read it.

We can be a work in progress without being a problem that needs fixing. For me, that is one of the gentler reminders tarot can offer: pause, notice what is happening and consider what might help you find a little more balance.

What does finding a little balance mean to you at the moment?
