Can Tarot Tell You What Someone Is Thinking?
It is one of the most common questions asked in tarot. Can the cards really tell you what another person is thinking, or is there something else going on in the reading?
“What is he thinking?”
Or perhaps, “What does she really feel about me?”
These are perfectly understandable questions. When someone matters to us, uncertainty can be remarkably uncomfortable. The mind fills the silence with possibilities, most of which are not especially helpful.
So people turn to tarot.
What the cards can show
A tarot reading can explore the dynamics around a relationship. It can look at feelings, patterns, communication, expectations and the way a situation appears from your side of the table.
But there is an important distinction.
A reading is not a telephone line into somebody else’s head.
The cards are better used as a way of examining the relationship and your understanding of it than as a guaranteed transcript of another person’s private thoughts.
Why can it feel so accurate?
This is where things become interesting.
When you ask about someone you know well, you already carry a great deal of information about them. You remember their words, their habits, their silences and the little things they do without thinking.
A tarot spread can bring some of that material into focus.
You may turn over a card and suddenly think, “Of course.” Not because the card has secretly intercepted a message from the other person’s brain, but because the image has helped you recognise something you already suspected.
And sometimes the question changes
Suppose you ask, “Does my ex still think about me?”
That is a difficult question to answer with certainty.
But another question might actually help you more:
“What is keeping me emotionally connected to this person?”
That question is yours. You can do something with it.
Tarot becomes much more interesting when it helps you investigate the part of the situation that you can actually influence.
What about feelings?
Feelings are complicated things. A person can miss you and still not want a relationship. They can care about you and still choose distance. They can be confused themselves.
A good reading should leave room for that complexity.
Life rarely behaves like a neat yes or no answer printed on a card.
The useful question
If you are asking what someone is thinking, don’t be afraid to ask the cards about the situation. Just remember that another person remains another person, with their own choices and private thoughts.
Sometimes the most revealing part of a reading is not discovering what they think.
It is discovering what you already know.
